This year’s edition of the 18th World Congress of Applied Linguistics (AILA 2017) will take place in Rio de Janeiro on the 23rd to 28th of July 2017. The registration is currently open on their website until the 24th of July.
The Congress is organized by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Brazilian Association of Applied Linguistics (ALAB) and will count with a free mobile app created by Galoá.
The event occurs every 3 years. Its last edition reunited 2 thousand researchers, in Beijing (China). According to the ALAB, 2 thousand papers have already been approved for the 2017 edition, and they will be published at the Galoá Proceedings platform.
The papers will be presented in one of the following formats:
- Individual Papers
- Poster Presentations
- Invited Symposium
Fourteen scholars from around the world were granted a special Travel Award to participate at the event. The initiative helped researchers who couldn’t afford the travel and participation costs and was possible thanks to donations of individuals and organizations to the AILA Solidarity Fund, responsible for the awards. Learn more about it here.
The AILA’s 2017 theme is “Innovation and Epistemological Challenges in Applied Linguistics”, bringing to the spotlight discussions about the challenges of the Applied Linguistics field and how innovative agendas can influence the work of linguists.
The call for papers has already been concluded, but you can register as an audience member at the official website, until the 24th of july 2017. Register here.
To let the participants know about what should they expect from the event, the organizing committee released an anticipatory checklist of the event, written by the Professor Francisco Gomes de Matos from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). Check out an excerpt:
